As the new year is approaching, on behalf of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Kiribati, I wish all Kiribati friends from all walks of life and Chinese compatriots in Kiribati a happy and prosperous new year.
This year 2021 has been a milestone for China. Chinese people celebrated the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Our first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects has been realized. And now we are marching in confident strides toward the second centenary goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. Facing a once-in-a-century pandemic and global changes unseen in a century, China has maintained a leading position in the world in economic development and pandemic control, with significant progress made in scientific strength, reform and opening-up, people's livelihood and ecological civilization. Guided by the concept of building a community of shared future for mankind and Global Development Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, China has play a responsible and active role in conducting international cooperation for the well-being of everyone and all-round development of every nation.
This year 2021 has witnessed stronger bilateral ties between China and Kiribati. The political mutual trust has been deepened by phone talks and video conference between our leaders. The first China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers’ Meeting was held successfully with fruitful outcome. It’s a great pleasure to see a lot of achievements have been made in many fields such as infrastructure, education, trade, agriculture, ecology and people-to-people exchange, etc. The Chinese side donated 90,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and many PPEs. Major projects like Buota Bridge and Tug and Barge, livelihood projects like solar street lights, toilet and water tanks, are progressing well. We officially launched the Chinese Government Scholarship and started the intake. These remarkable achievements have brought more tangible benefits to our two peoples and impetus to the realization of development targets of KV20.
Bidding farewell to 2021, we are now ushering in the year 2022. The CPC will hold its 20th National Congress which will be the most important event across the nation next year. China will hold the Beijing Winter Olympic Games and is confident in presenting to the world a streamlined, safe and splendid Games. As Kiribati borders are about to open next year, I’m sure there will be more opportunities for our cooperation and exchanges. The Embassy will continue to join hands with Kiribati friends to strive for greater common development and further deepen our friendship.
