On September 26, 2023, Ambassador-designate ZHOU Limin, accompanied by his wife, attended the heartwarming handover ceremony of medical materials of Brightness Action program held in the Tungaru Central hospital and visited Kiribati patients who have received cataract surgeries. This special occasion was graced by the presence of MHMS Secretary Benny Teuea, DHS Dr. Tekeua Kabiri, the dedicated Guangdong Brightness Action medical team led by Professor Chen Weirong, and the long-term Chinese medical team stationed in Kiribati.

In his address, H.E. ZHOU briefed the remarkable history of China's medical assistance abroad and highlighted the outstanding achievements in China-Kiribati medical cooperation. He reaffirmed China's commitment to continue supporting Kiribati in enhancing its medical services and building a healthier and brighter partnership between the two nations.

Secretary Benny, representing MHMS, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the hardworking Brightness Action medical team and extended thanks to China for providing essential medical instruments and materials to strengthen the ophthalmology capacity of Central hospital in Kiribati. She also expressed eagerness to further deepen the medical cooperation between our two countries.

In the witness of Ambassador-designate Zhou and Secretary Benny, Professor Chen signed the certificate of handover for the donated materials with DHS Dr. Tekeua. Ambassador-designate ZHOU and Secretary Benny jointly unveiled gauze for the patients, celebrating their regained sight. The patients are so excited, singing a heartfelt blessing song for the Brightness Action medical team. One representative from the patients, Mr. Tieri Kaiekieki on behalf of all the patients, expressed their deep gratitude to the Chinese doctors.
